Tin Collection

I have this tin collection in my kitchen. I've limited my collecting to that section of cabinets but some say I should continue collecting & put them all around my kitchen. Maybe I will. I haven't bought any in a long time so maybe I'm done. I guess this collection was inspired by Grandma Smith's. She has lots of great old ones. I'm not so much into antique anything just collect whatever catches my eye. And only in good shape. These are the three I use: saltine crackers, Cream of Wheat and tea. Mom had an old saltine cracker one so I had to have that & Cream of Wheat is my favorite (maybe I'll have some tomorrow morning!) so I ordered that one on a special offer. I like the picture of the little boy walking through the snow. There's a little girl version up with the rest of the tins. I don't really have a favorite, I like them all! There's several Hershey's, a couple Crayola, Coke, an Oreo one, several floral tins and even a Milwaukee Brewers one since Damon's a fan! I'm sure these need to be taken down and washed....

It just got real quiet here

LOL We're having a rather quiet Thursday anyway.

A very full closet

This is how full my closet gets in the winter. I guess the picture doesn't show quite how full of coats, snowpants, boots and bags it is. Somehow it works!

Time for some pink!

It came today!

I bought a new coat and it came today via UPS. C's mom has it and I've admired it for several weeks. Finally I said, "I really like that coat" and she said she got it Gander Mountain & there were three more on clearance (still not exactly a steal). Well, she got hers weeks ago so I didn't expect to find one. I never would think to go there to buy a coat. Guess I should have because this is the nicest one I saw all season. Our store had one left but it was a small & I could get it on but it wasn't so comfortable. Customer service checked & Madison West had one so they sent it. I did just get a new Columbia in November or December because I needed something warm to "play" outside in with the kids, but I couldn't pass up a coat I really like-I guess I'm picky & usually can't find one that's really right. This one is more feminine & dressy (or will work for mtg) due to the color & with the quilting on the side. Columbias are the warmest jackets I've ever had!

Bathroom painting is done

Damon & I finished it up last night. Damon did most of it. I said "it almost looks like you're enjoying this" and he said he didn't mind. I'm glad! He just jumped on the project and got it done. Hmm, maybe we'll get the bedroom done next week? We still need to paint by the sink (I'm thinking we'll use the darker shade) but I'm going to check Menard's for a new lighting fixture and mirror first. I didn't care for what Home Depot had. It's hard to get pictures since it's such a tiny room. The wall with the door is the darker "Sweetheart" color. I found the Fleur-de-lis above the étagère at our new Hobby Lobby on Saturday & I wasn't planning to put it there but I'm satisfied with it. I tend to keep finding things I like & then rearrange if necessary! I'm so happy with how it turned out! Much better than before.

It's days like this

that I don't really like. Usually Mondays are quiet for me with day care, which is nice. Thursday is my other quiet day that feels very welcome by the end of the week. But today, I don't like it so quiet. It's hard to be motivated with so few kids. (I guess there's been 6 in/out today plus Brett but due to the schedules, it's pretty quiet!)
Two slower days was good-now I have three days, which isn't. In some ways it's good of course, and I should be taking advantage while I can. I've had a busy schedule for at least two years. I'm just bummed.
M & D were possibly going to go to full time M-F hours & I was confident that would happen. Now instead of gaining 2 kids for 12 hrs, I've lost 2 kids for 5 hrs. on Tuesday. Hopefully this is temporary & their Mom can get extra hours. In the meantime I can't hold two spots hoping they can come full time. It just feels empty without them here. Those two girls add a lot to my group. Another family was going to add more hours & decided not to. C only needs to come 2 days/wk instead of 3. P used to be drop in & doesn't come at all now. B's mom asked to cut back hours but hasn't yet & probably won't because of my PT minimum. They wouldn't save money coming less. B & A are down to 2 days/month so I've switched them to the drop in care contract. E's mom somehow seems to be using her free monthly sick day each month. I see that policy changing soon. I don't like being lied to or taken advantage of. There's always one that wrecks it for the others...and maybe she was sick.
I've been taking calls and turning down people for day care for weeks. Now I could be interviewing. I always say "things change around here fast" and they sure do. You know, everyone does what's best for them & even tell me they "have to". Now it appears I must do what's best for me and I'm going to start interviewing for full or part time openings. I don't want to lose anyone I currently care for, but it looks like I need to check out my options. I'll have to consider replacing some part timers if I have an opportunity. I've made things too convenient & flexible for people I guess, charging hourly not requiring full payment for spots. It has worked out to my advantage for a long time so I shouldn't get down now.
It's frustrating to fill the house with groceries, planning activities & a menu, buy curriculum and supplies, preparing my house and then hardly have anyone here for the day. It's a good reminder that I like it busy! Every time I'm in this situation it doesn't last long, but change is hard. I like my kids and families. I like a full schedule. I like feeling needed. It's not about me though, it's just life, the situations people are in. I should be glad this is the only affect it has on me-my end of it's easier-as they are dealing with divorce and illness.
At least I have extra time for this little guy who has been very happy and has a more even temperament the last few days! Trying to keep "up" today as the rest of the week will be back to normal! It's easy to let little things to get out of perspective.

Tonight

Damon started painting tonight! Brett can't wait to help with the roller but he will have to until the next color is started on a lower wall. Damon stopped at Home Depot on his way home for paint. Came home & immediately I knew one of the colors was wrong. It was labeled right but the color was wrong. So back he went. Took Brett to get his hair cut and then home again to start painting. I just put away groceries. Time to read Jonah to Brett and get him in bed & so I can help paint.

Feeling good about this

I picked up a few, well it turned into more than a few, groceries tonight. Funny how you go in for milk and end up with a lot more.
Woodman's had these reusable shopping bags for sale. A whole table full. I bought 5, they were only .79 I didn't know how many I would need for all the groceries. I ended up having more than enough room for a full cart of groceries. We'll keep one or two bags in Alero and the others in the Saturn. They are so much easier to carry than the paper bags. Lately I haven't used the paper bags for anything, just been recycling them so this is better.

The Little House

Toronto's Smallest house I couldn't live there-too frustrating! Personally, I don't think it classifies as "cute" even. Interesting though.

Paint Project

This week I'm going to paint my bathroom. Hopefully with Damon's help! He's a good painter. I'm just impatient and want it done. I like picking out colors though and finally nailed it down to two shades of pink. My (Damon showers in the hall bathroom because he used to go to work early & that way he didn't wake me up. Besides, we like our own space and can get ready at the same time.) bathroom is off the bedroom and the sink is separate from the toilet and shower so I can use two colors. Currently it's a light shade of green-kinda minty- that's been there since we moved in. It worked so it has stayed but now I'm tired of it and some areas need to be patched and painted anyway. I made my shower curtain several years ago and I don't think I'll get sick of it for a long time so I based my colors on the shades of pink in the fabric. Usually I go with Behr colors but these are Glidden "Lotus Blossom" and "Sweetheart". The darker "Sweetheart" will be used sparingly, behind the shower. The "Lotus Blossom" has a touch of peach but not too orange, I don't think. It blends better with the fabric than it appears here. These colors look like shades of lipstick to me!
The bedroom is getting repainted too but not sure when we'll tackle that. It's going to be "Woodland Mystery" green. The carpet is dark green (house was built in 1995). I've always wanted the walls to be warmer (they're the minty shade now) but it seemed silly to repaint them a little bit more muted green again when there were plenty of other things that needed to be done. We're ready now. Our bedding is burgundy and cream. I'll share pictures when it's done. It will be better than it sounds!

Lemon Meringue Pie

Sunday

What a really nice day and it's not even over yet.

This morning I asked Damon about my shoes. I am wearing a brown skirt, tights & navy blue sweater. I have a pair of navy shoes I wanted to wear because well, they sorta match, and I don't wear them often but I like them. Only reason I question it is because of the brown tights. Not what I'd normally wear. Damon says "well I wouldn't wear blue shoes with *my* brown tights." OK, that was helpful. I decided to look in the more natural lighting in the living room. Brett is in there reading a book so I ask him, "how does Mommy's outfit look? Are my shoes OK?" He looks up and says "Hmm..." He puts his finger in his check thinking... "Well, your skirt matches your tights and your sweater looks good with your shoes. You're good Mom." :) He was so serious! Damon was a bit concerned that Brett had such an opinion! I decided to wear it. It wasn't that crazy or daring. I didn't regret it either. You know how you sit down in meeting and change your mind? We're all kinda matchy today too. Damon's wearing a blue shirt/brown pants and Brett a navy & beige sweater with navy cords.

We came home to dinner in the oven. I like that on Sunday! Chicken breast with Lipton Creamy Chicken Rice and carrots. Add dinner rolls and cranberry sauce and we have a meal. I decided on the way home that we needed a pie, a lemon meringue pie. So I made a pie crust and the filling while dinner was finishing up and the bread was baking. Whipped up the meringue while Damon cleaned up dishes. Now when are we going to eat it? It's supposed to cool 4 hrs. We need to leave for GM in 1/2 hr and we've been invited out for supper afterwards. They're going to wonder why we didn't bring it along! I don't see the pie completely cooling.... I'm not sure why I don't make pies more often. It's not hard and doesn't take that long. Even making a crust is easy as....pie. I used Grandma Smith's crust recipe and the filling is just the Jell-o Cook & Serve from a box. I'll add the recipe card.

Nuke your sponge

I do this too! LOL Microwave disinfecting your sponge

Frozen Collage Art

Here is what we made today. Each child picked out collage items- pieces of colored straws, buttons, feathers, pom poms, mosaic pieces-and put them in their bowl. Added colored water, a yarn loop and put them outside on the deck to freeze which didn't take long. Then we hung them on the trellis. It's a nice little greeting by the front door! This was a fun idea, not mine, but one found. I bet it will be messy once they melt! LOL May as well celebrate this really cold spell!

Cherry Pies

Today we had a cooking activity making mini cherry pies. I had a pre-made pie crust left over (won't tell you how long I've had it but it's totally fine!) I cut it in pieces and the kids put their crust into a sprayed muffin tin. We cut off the extra crust around the edges with a pizza cutter. Then each scooped in cherry pie filling. We rolled out the scraps for the top crust and they put them on. Brushed with water and sprinkled (piled) with sugar. Baked for 15 mins. (?) and we had cherry pie for dessert! Two decided they didn't like it. The other four gobbled them up. We also played "Baker, baker where's your pie?" - basically hide the pie. The "hider" wore the baker's hat while hiding the pie. The other kids, who were cheating really bad, come out to find it and say "Baker, baker where's your pie?" They've learned the hot/cold clues and it has become a quick-let-me-find-it-first-deal. We recently did mitten and The Three Little Kitten themes to go along with this. Tomorrow we're going to freeze objects in pie plates and use them as outside decorations. Hopefully they will turn out and I'll share pictures after they are frozen and hanging outside! (See the beautiful blue mural on the kitchen wall?? That's what we did yesterday for our color of the month. I never thought I'd decorate in there with blue! Really, it brightens up the room a lot.)

Playing in the snow

A few pictures from today.

Swim Class & Texas Roadhouse

video

video

Brett has started swim class again Jan-May. He goes every Tuesday night for 1/2 hr. He just loves it. He did last year too but was afraid of getting water in his ears. Now he's not so concerned except when trying to back float. Otherwise he's under the water more than not! Here's a few pictures & videos. They aren't the best quality since I'm sitting in an adjoining room watching through a window. The sound on the video is of people in the same room talking & gymnastics going on next door. And don't mind the swim teacher in the background... Not sure who the teacher is-there's been two different ones now. It's a nice place for lessons. The water is 90 degrees and there's 5 or less kids in a class.

Tonight the little turkey talked me into going to Texas Roadhouse. I made the mistake of asking him what he wanted for supper and he said "squash". He means sweet potato at TRH. He said he wasn't changing his mind! I decided a salad would be good (their french dressing is my favorite & it's the best salad in town-sad to say-well Olive Garden is good too!) so we went. We were seated in "Willie's Corner" so he had to know about Willie Nelson. My knowledge of him is a bit limited so he got the abbreviated version. See, Mom and Brett can have fun while Dad's gone! : )

It's really cold and windy here tonight, we were glad to get home.

Colin Powell's Rules for Success

This is on my calendar today and I like a lot of it:
  • It ain't as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.
  • Get mad, and then get over it.
  • Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.
  • It can be done!
  • Be careful what you choose. You may get it.
  • Don't let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.
  • You can't make someone else's choices. You shouldn't let someone else make yours.
  • Check small things.
  • Share credit.
  • Remain calm. Be kind.
  • Have a vision. Be demanding.
  • Don't take counsel of your fears or naysayers.
  • Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.

New Snow

We have a lot of beautiful new snow! Yes, I still feel that way after getting up early and using the snowblower before 6am. I enjoyed doing it but it's a lot to do before everyone shows up at 6:40 am so no extra time this morning. I should have allowed more time but I didn't think we'd get this much snow! We were to get 4-7" and we have all of that. These pictures are mostly for Damon so he can see how much we got. He left for Dallas yesterday, and will be gone all week, to train someone on his job down there. I shoveled twice during the day besides. I'll have to go out again after the snowplow comes through. I cleaned out the end of the driveway 1/2 way into the street and far to the sides of the driveway but we'll still get a lot pushed back in. I just can't get out there until late in the day with kids here and I don't want people stuck in my driveway! It's light & fluffy snow so that probably wouldn't happen.
I like looking out at the snow before it all gets walked in and played in! We *are* going out today regardless of the temperatures. We might not be able to stay out as long. My schedule is all different because of school delays. Our house is between two districts to complicate things. Milton has 2 hr delay with no Early Childhood classes so A is here for an hour and K will be here all day. Janesville had a 1 hr delay so E came an hour late and S was here for an extra 1 1/2 hrs.
Tonight Brett has swim class and then I promised to read him an Archie comic book story about Archie as "Pureheart the Powerful". He thinks it looks cool but I know he won't understand a lot of it. Now he's busy playing store with the girls! Muffins for snack are ready so that's next.

Lucky Me

I recently ordered these Italian Stitch cups from S's Taste of Home party. I got two sets and I really like them. One did have a flaw, hard to explain- it's not a chip but like the glaze wasn't right. When talking to the consultant about something else, she asked if all was ok. I told her but didn't want to deal with returning one/getting it replaced (which it turns out she didn't require anyway) and decided it was OK, I'd live with it. She wanted pictures so I emailed them to her and she said it would be replaced. They weren't inexpensive so I thought that was nice. A box came yesterday and there wasn't just one, but a full set! I suppose they don't ship any other way. I love these cups and am glad to have a few extra especially since they do seem to chip easily. So now I have 12 but *two* are chipped-one is the flawed one. I hate to throw them out but since I don't like to use them that way I may as well since I got 3 extra!

Jack Frost

As Brett would say, Jack Frost was here! And he's staying a while....

Snowy Day

We had fun playing in the snow today! It was warm yet when we were out after lunch but now it's very cold. We're staying in tonight! While we were outside Brett bumped his lip and it started to bleed. He didn't even know it happened so when I saw blood I said we better go in & see what it looks like. He said "how are we going to put on a band-aid on there?" He's been a little sweetie today.

100 Things About Me

I've enjoyed other's lists of 100 things so have been working on mine! Here goes..... 1. I'm pretty happy most of the time. 2. I don't mind being alone & am quite independent. Damon is like that too. Neither of us are too needy, IMO. 3. I would never want to be alone all the time. 4. Brett is my little dream. 5. I love good cake. You can ruin a good cake with bad (boughten) / not enough frosting. 6. Summer is my favorite season but I'm starting to like fall a lot too. 7. I'd enjoy having a cat again. We had a part Siamese cat named Simmi at home. She was kinda mine, I think I liked her most even though she was snotty. 8. I would like 3 or 4 kids of my own but it's not likely. I try not to think about it too much. (probably why I keep so busy) 9. Lillies are my favorite flower. The scent of stargazers is intoxicating! 10. I want, want, want to go to Hawaii. We hope to go in 2 yrs for our 15th anniversary. 11. I loved my two years at FVTC in the Interior Design program. 12. Fabrics, furniture and accessories excite me. 13. I could never be happy with all white walls. 14. I can't make a meal or bake until my kitchen is clean. 15. I rarely can rest until *everything* else (that I think needs/or I want to be done) is done. 16. I'm nearly a workaholic. 17. I couldn't just do nothing for very long, although it often sounds great. 18. I love to create something-a meal, a room, a web page, a picture, etc. 19. I said I'd never take care of children. 20. I started my own business and made it (what I considered) successful in less than 2 yrs. It has grown from there. 21. I believe choices were made for me that brought me where I am today. Even choices for other people that have affected me. 22. Special people in my past still remain very much in my heart and thoughts. 23. I like to read a good book but often can't find one I'm interested in or feel is worth the time. Many are so similar (boring). 24. I find the more organized I am the more things I find to organize! 25. It bugs me when details are not cared for. Details can make all the difference in a lot of things. 26. I really liked my job measuring windows and selling window treatments. 27. I avoided braiding my hair & tried to dress older when I had that job because people said "so...how long have you been doing this?" and I felt like they were saying "how old are you anyway?" 28. I find overhead lighting irritating. 29. I like crystal - especially the pieces from Grandma Smith for my birthday each year. 30. I love how Mom always made our birthday special. 31. I sometimes wish I could go back in life and do things over and other times I'm so glad I don't have to. 32. I love it when I see Damon's features in Brett. His are more pleasing than mine. 33. I have more ideas than I have time for. 34. Damon & I feel like we are some of the "lucky ones" and are grateful to have each other. 35. We're so much alike, sometimes it's like I went from having a twin to having another half, so now I have both! 36. One of our favorite places is the Inn at Irish Hollow in Galena, IL. We can't wait to go back! 37. I'd like to take watercolor painting classes someday. 38. I love to tour historic homes. 39. Our wedding song was Love Changes Everything and I'm so glad I said I wanted that one. Steve's solo was amazing! 40. The 4th of July is probably my favorite holiday. We've had a couple 4th potluck parties and they're so fun! 41. I like empty laundry baskets, meaning clean clothes. 42. I sang a song to Brett when he was a baby that I made up. Very repetitive but sweet and he still likes it when I sing it. 43. I worry too much about things that don't matter a lot of the time. 44. I'm so glad no one sees me some days when I'm with the kids and dancing around and acting foolish for their entertainment! At least they enjoy it! 45. I really feel too old at 33 to still get a pile of birthday presents each year. It's fun though! 46. Mom always said the less you do, the less you want to do and I think that's at least partially true. 47. I'm glad for a lot of experiences of growing up on a farm. We had puppies, kittens, calves, a goat, and rabbits but not all at once. 48. One of my most embarrassing moments was spilling a whole glass of water at the conference table right next to the president just before our meeting started...everyone was great about it though. 49. We lived one year in MI near Detroit the first year we were married. We didn't love the city but we enjoyed our meeting and another couple we met there so much and still think of and appreciate them. Before we moved, the girls I worked with took me on a night out in Greektown. We even met up with a limo driver who had come into our store looking to borrow tape so he gave us a ride around while waiting for his clients to eat dinner at the top floor of some restaurant downtown. Fun! 50. While living in that apartment some of our laundry was stolen from the laundry room, the neighbor guy's Corvette was attempted to be stolen (parked right next to ours & Damon found it broken into & the steering column wrecked when he came home at 2am from work) and there was a fire downstairs and I had to go outside late at night while Damon was working nights. 51. Damon and I went skiing the weekend we got in engaged. He also had mono and gave it to me. 52. I had quite the experiences while working in Rockford doing shop at home sales. I know I was in at least two drug houses......the smell, the cash, the people hanging around, the sign on one of the doors saying "if you want drugs don't come here, we don't have drugs" LOL ! Another house where an old lady lived upstairs and her drunk son took care of her totally freaked me out. I sold blinds to her but didn't make any money on that sale. Long story. 53. I've sold more gold shiny vertical blinds than I'd like to admit. Whatever sells! 54. I won a contest for selling the most track upgrades while working there. The prize was a really bad limo ride (probably because it had to be cheap since I was coming from Rockford and they probably expected someone from the Chicago area stores to win) to Chicago for dinner at Nick's Fish Market. Dinner was great but I don't remember what we ordered. We had a lot of money left over since we weren't buying drinks they allowed for! 55. I worked at JcPenny for a few weeks at West Towne in Madison. A lady scammed me and I gave her a refund for blinds she went & picked up from the shelf and gave me a sob story about needing to return them cause her house burned down. Guess the girls had heard that one before! 56. My job at Thomasville was great in many ways but the worst experience ever due to the management and ownership..... I felt like there was no where to go after that. 57. I'm so glad I'm done working nights & weekends!! I put in 5 years of that. 58. I pretty much hated high school and couldn't wait to get out. 59. I really liked 4H and all the projects we made for the fair. 60. I wish I had learned to play piano earlier so I could be better and more confident. 61. I wish Damon would sing to me. He has a great voice. 62. I prefer to go buy Brett clothes than for myself. 63. I don't know what the hang up is on shoes. I think shoe shopping is a pain and I refuse to spend big money on shoes. 64. I like nice things but I can get by just fine with garage sales and Goodwill shopping. 65. Some of my favorite flowers in my yard are sweet peas, morning glories and zinnias. 66. I enjoy gardening and can't wait to get out there in the spring. I must get that from Mom. 67. I'd take lilies over roses. 68. Damon and I love seafood. Even Brett loves shrimp. 69. I have the cutest nephew and niece. They probably don't want to be called cute any more! 70. I felt it was necessary to consider the family I was marrying into. I'm glad I did and am glad I have a great in laws!! 71. I love to get a tan in the summer. I know it's not healthy. 72. Convention is what we look forward to most every year. We're always amazed that 4 days go so fast. 73. I have to fall asleep on my left side. 74. I think September is the perfect time of the year to have a newborn. 75. I loved that Brett was a tiny baby. He was 6lbs 4ozs. 76. I never felt a thing when delivering Brett. I'm fine with that. I don't think there's anything noble or great about feeling pain. I don't feel like I missed out on anything! 77. I hope I never have to have surgery again. I had my appendix out and a D&C after Brett was born. 78. I could have died hours after he was born. I woke up to nurses around my bed trying to stick in an IV anywhere & were totally scared and asked the Dr. (who was on call and had to rush to the hospital) how they could have known before I passed out. She said they couldn't have. I wonder if they could have known when I vomited? I know that's normal during birth but after? I don't know but I couldn't eat. My blood pressure was 60/40. My bladder was 4x the size of normal but I had no outward signs or pain to indicate anything was wrong. 79. I cried before surgery because Brett hadn't even been fed yet (I know he was OK though), hours after he was born, and asked Damon to bring my quilt from home. 80. I still use my quilt, that Grandma Smith made, almost every night, even in the summer due to the air conditioning. 81. From my experience, I believe that a lot of kids don't get enough sleep. I believe that "sleep lost is sleep lost forever" and that naps and a good schedule helps nighttime sleeping. I don't understand why parents think toddlers or preschoolers don't need naps. 82. I know I could use a lot more sleep too. 83. Damon and I love to peek in on Brett when he's sleeping and do it several times every night before going to bed. 84. I can't sleep in a messy room. 85. I can't stand too much salt. That's why I can't handle McDonald's. 86. I like marshmellow topping on chocolate ice cream. 87. I knew meetings were being tested for me or us, but I wanted to profess at convention. 88. I'm so glad I was baptized at the same time as many of my close friends. I didn't know they would be there and was glad to see them when we got there. 89. I think I could be better friends with a guy than a girl. 90. I read For Better or For Worse and Luann comics daily. 91. I sometimes wipe the bathroom floor down with a Clorox wipe or two. 92. I'm kinda fanatical about santizing my kitchen and prefer paper towel over wiping down my counters with a wash cloth. 93. I needed/benefited from the sales and office experience I had with my previous jobs to have my own day care. 94. When young at home, Julie & I wote & got letters daily from our friends. Long before email!! Special days. We had 100's of letters saved. I have pictures of them somewhere. 95. I still love to go out and get the mail every day at nap time. 96. I'm sick about not being able to find our wedding picture negatives. They must be in the basement somewhere. 97. I'd love a bigger house but I don't want to pay for it and I could be pretty happy in this house for years and years. 98. I enjoy planning fun and exciting experiences for the kids to enjoy. I hope these are things Brett will always remember fondly and know how much I love him. 99. I sometimes dread not knowing what's ahead that I still have to face. 100. I had a good friend in high school that I baked a huge valentine cookie for so she could put it in her crush's locker. They dated for a while after that!

Books

Some of you bloggers talking about books are making me want to read a new book! I haven't read one in a while. That's all I used to do in my spare time but that was years ago before a house, child & day care. I hardly even read magazines anymore unless it's just a scan or quick flip through. So I bought a few new books. I wanted that Nicholas Spark's book The Choice but Target only had the hardcover for $17 and I won't pay that. I got his other book At First Sight instead. I also picked up Love in the Time of Cholera. I really like those Oprah Book Club books! Well, not all of them, but many of them that I've read have been good. I really like the soft cover books. I could care less if I have a hardcover book. I think these larger softcover books are so nice though, I'd just like to buy a whole bunch of them just to have em! I keep a small library of reference books for parents so I bought this Toddler 411 book. It looks like it's got lots of good info (that you could find online if you took the time). It covers just about anything! Some things I read I totally agree with, such as sleep training methods, & use it as my advice or opinion on a subject when a parent asks. I even sound smart occasionally! Brett got two new ones: Curious George and the Firefighters and Henry's Bad Day. Here's a picture of our children's book library. I have more large books and some phonics sets besides what's in Brett's room. I need another bookshelf but two won't fit in this space because of the register vent and because it needs to be anchored to the wall to a stud. I'll have to figure something out soon-it's really crammed. I should add that the kids seem to go through an age where they want to empty the entire bookshelf. This is a stage and it passes. I haven't had one do it in a while, but I'm guessing it's around 15-18 months or so. After that, they learn and they're pretty good about taking one or two off the shelf. I have the kids pile them on a table and I put them back on the shelf. No rhyme or reason for the most part but all the hardcover Bright & Early or Beginner books go on the top right together and then board books on the bottom so the babies can get them. The very top shelf is still my books but we're starting to need room for more children's books and since mine get so little use.....
